Everthing is goin fine !!!

January 28, 2009

What a relief. Back to running is such a blessing. It seems my whole outlook has improved. I am normaly such an upbeat person, but not knowing what exactly what was going on had some down moments. Everything is much mo betta now.

I am still taking some precaution not to re-injure myself. After taking a long run I am resting the following day just to make sure not to over do it. Pretty smart huh ? Sometimes panic sets in and that’s when you have to be careful. The weather has been so ideal and being my favorite time of year to train I have a hard time holding back.

I logged 11 miles on Saturday, then took off both Sunday and Monday. Then yesterday (Tuesday ) I ran a very challenging 9 mile loop @ altitude. Will be taking today off and if I feel good then I will get back to running 6 days a week and only one rest day starting next week.

Getting excited about the super bowl. All the meat is marinating and the plans for a great time are in process. Go Cardinals !!!

Hey Peeps – I’m back on the trail !!!

Back on the trail. My injury is completely healed. I thank God that I am finally able to run again. It’s wonderful how fast everything healed up. To tell the truth, this injury actually had me quite concerned. The pain was so intense it felt like my leg was on fire. For 3wks it did not seem to be getting any better, then on Tuesday I wanted to see what would happen. Guess what ? I ran 11 miles. Isn’t that awesome ? And then today I went for 10 miles and still no pain. Not even any discomfort.

Like I said before, the bike is ok and certainly is better than doing nothing at all. It is hard to ride and not run knowing that in 8 short months I will be running a 100 mile race @ altitude. The best training is being on your feet for long periods of time. I declare there will be no more injuries here on out.

Today was another beautiful day in the desert. It was raining lightly – my favorite. This last week had high temps @ 80 degrees which is ridiculous for January. For those of you experiencing extremely low temps, 80 degrees probably sounds like heaven. The average high temperature is 65 degrees fot this time of year. That would be preferable. I will be going for another 11 miles tomorrow.

Miles logged: Tues = 11 miles Thurs = 10 miles

Saying of the day – “Every memorable act in the history of the world is a triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it because it gives any challenge or any occupation, no matter how frightening or difficult, a new meaning. Without enthusiasm you are doomed to a life of mediocrity but with it you can accomplish miracles.”( Og Mandino )

Up the mountain

January 20, 2009

Today I am going to post two blogs. Two for the price of one. It’s funny that when I first started this blog I couldn’t wait to post. As time goes on, I realize it takes time to do this. It adds excitement to your day thinking about what you are going to post on your blog. Some days are more exciting than others. Everyone should have a blog. You will find things to do just so you can write something of interest. Try it.

The pictures on my bike are going up Mt. Lemon. Several years ago when I was nursing another injury, my friend and I would go up to the ski lift parking lot twice a week. It sure seems like it was much easier then. Give me another week or so and I’ll be flying up.

Today is the first day since Jan 1, 2009 my leg is feeling much better. It is tempting to try running a little, but my gut feeling is to wait a while longer. Always go with the gut feeling. It is never wrong. OK OK I’ll wait.

The other pictures are from yesterday. My wife Joni and I went to the Santa Rita Mountains with our friends Casey and Laurie Justen to go 4 wheeling. We had an absolute blast. A day off does the soul good. The weather was spectacular.
